History
Pixie Crunch was developed in 1972 by PRI, the joint apple-breeding program of Purdue University, Rutgers University, and the University of Illinois. Before being named Pixie Crunch, it was tested as Co-op 33. It is a cross of two numbered apples, but has both Golden Delicious and Rome in its heritage.
