Description
Zabergäu Reinette is a large, copper-colored and highly-russeted apple with strong, spicy, sweet, and nutty flavor. It is an excellent pie and cider apple, and it keeps well in storage. Harvesting begins in September.

History
Zabergäu Reinette is a German apple dating back to 1885, first grown on the Zaber River in south central Germany. It began to be widely distributed in 1926. Reinette is possibly derived from the French ‘raine,’ a frog with brown “russeting.”
