Spencer is a large, handsome, solid red or red blush over green, sweet-tart apple with crisp, juicy, greenish-white flesh. Although prized as fresh-eating apples, Spencers are excellent pie and sauce apples, as well. Spencers are not noted for a lengthy storage life, so enjoy them close to harvest in mid-October.

Developed in 1926, and commercially released in 1959 by the British Columbia Experimental Station in Summerland, Spencer is a cross between McIntosh and Golden Delicious.
