St. Lawrence

Sweet Tart

St. Lawrence is a strikingly beautiful heirloom, with a light green base overlaid with red striping. It is a good fresh-eating or applesauce apple with its crisp texture and lemony taste. Its flavor is milder in baking.

Discovered: 1800s

Parentage: possibly Fameuse

Harvest: Early Season

The history of St. Lawrence is unclear. Like many early-season apples, it is best eaten soon after harvest and is not a good candidate for storage.
