Sweet Tart

Antonovka is an old, yellow-green variety from Russia. When fully ripe, it is sweet and spicy, with some tartness. It has firm, finely grained flesh, and it is good for both cooking and fresh eating. The apples store well, and the trees are cold- and drought-hardy. Antonovka was first recorded in Kursk, Russia, in 1828, where there is a monument to it today.
