Often confused with Vandevere and Esopus Spitzenburg, Newtown Spitzenburg is crisp, aromatic, with outstanding flavor, mildly tart mingled with sweet. It bears unreliably, is not considered attractive due to its dull red color, and is too small to be marketable.
