Description
Williams’ Pride is a medium-to-large, slightly conical, maroon-red apple. Its cream-colored flesh is crisp and juicy, with a spicy, sweet-tart flavor. This early season all-purpose apple is especially good for fresh eating.

History
Williams’ Pride was developed in West Lafayette, Indiana in 1975, by the Indiana, New Jersey, and Illinois (PRI) joint apple-breeding program, and released commercially in 1988. It was named for Edwin B. Williams, long-time head of the disease-resistant apple-breeding program at Purdue University. Its heritage includes Jonathan, Melba, Mollie’s Delicious, and Rome.
Williams’ Pride is sometimes confused with the heirloom apple Williams, discovered in Roxbury, Massachusetts, in the mid-1700s.
