Description
Nova, also known as Nova Spy, is a medium to large apple with a round, somewhat blocky shape. It is mostly red with a little yellow striping. Its crisp, coarse flesh has a tangy flavor with lots of sugar and juice, similar to Northern Spy. It is good for fresh eating, cooking, and cider.
Nova ripens in late September into mid-October. The trees are resistant to the fungus known as apple scab, and it stores well.

History
Nova was developed in 1986 by the Atlantic Food and Horticulture Research Centre in Kentville, Nova Scotia. It is a hybridization of Nova Easygro x (Red Spy x Golden Delicious).
