Description
Porter is a greenish-yellow aromatic apple with a crimson-orange blush, its cream-colored flesh as tender and sweet as it is juicy. Porter is a good all-purpose and cider apple, and it retains its shape and flavor when cooked making it especially good for canning. It is ready for picking in late August.

History
Porter was introduced in 1840 in Sherburne, Massachusetts. The Rev. Samuel Porter first nurtured this apple and is its namesake, although the parentage of Porter is not clear. Porter has been popular in the South.
