Stone is a rare variety, large, round, ruby red with splashes of yellow-green. It is crisp and mildly sweet with a fairly tough skin.

From its origins in Bethel, Vermont, Stone was cultivated in St. Lawrence county, New York, beginning in 1836 or 1837 by a Mr. Stone.
